Halloween is supposed to frighten, and our top teams certainly got their share of scares over the weekend – none moreso than Ohio State, which stumbles 12 spots after losing two to a Western Michigan team that had lost to two CHA foes. These tricks left much of the Power Rankings in flux, as you'll see below.

Here's how the Inside College Hockey editors and staff rank the nation's top teams (along with a note for each team).

1. Colorado College 3 The Tigers ascend to No. 1 and junior forward J.P. Brunkhorst gets bragging rights over his brother, Chris, a defensive lineman for the Maverick football team.

2. Michigan 1 Split at Fairbanks drops Wolverines from our top spot, but most CCHA teams will be thrilled with that result on this trip.
5-1-1 (1-1-1 CCHA). LAST WEEK: L at Alaska-Fairbanks, 4-2; W at Alaska-Fairbanks, 4-0. THIS WEEK: at Notre Dame, vs. Notre Dame.
3. Maine 4 Remember when losing Jimmy Howard was a concern? The Black Bears have allowed one goal or posted a shutout in six of eight games, including four straight.
7-1-0 (2-0-0 Hockey East). LAST WEEK: W at Boston College, 2-1; W at Massachusetts, 4-0. THIS WEEK: vs. Merrimack, vs. Boston University.
4. North Dakota 2 The Fighting Sioux may have played the nation's toughest schedule to this point, and now 4-1-1 Wisconsin comes to town.
5-2-1 (1-1-0 WCHA). LAST WEEK: W vs. Denver, 3-1; L vs. Denver, 7-2. THIS WEEK: vs. Wisconsin, vs. Wisconsin.
5. Vermont 5 The unbeaten Catamounts head into Hockey East play with an 11-for-39 power play (28.6 percent) and a PK that has allowed one goal in 36 short-handed situations (97.2 percent).
6-0-0 (0-0-0 Hockey East). LAST WEEK: W at Niagara, 3-2; W at Niagara, 4-2. THIS WEEK: at Northeastern, at Boston University.
6. Cornell Dave McKee's goals-against average is 3.04 after the opening weekend. It'll be back under 3.00 in no time.
1-1-0 (0-0-0 ECACHL). LAST WEEK: W vs. Michigan State, 4-2; L vs. Michigan State, 4-3. THIS WEEK: at Yale, at Brown.
7. Minnesota 4 3-2-1 is a slow start for the highly regarded Gophers, but it could be much worse. Right, Vikings fans?
3-2-1 (3-1-0 WCHA). LAST WEEK: L at St. Cloud State, 3-2; W at St. Cloud State, 3-1. THIS WEEK: at Minnesota Duluth, at Minnesota Duluth.
8. Michigan State 3 Lergs love Lynah. Goalie Jeff gets first career win and cousin Bryan has four assists on Saturday.
3-1-1 (0-0-1 CCHA). LAST WEEK: L at Cornell, 4-2; W at Cornell, 4-3. THIS WEEK: vs. Northern Michigan, vs. Northern Michigan.
9. Denver 1 With injuries mounting, George Gwozdecky thought Saturday's game "could perhaps be a defining moment." After the Pioneers responded with a 7-2 win, he certainly hopes so.
3-3-0 (1-1-0 WCHA). LAST WEEK: L at North Dakota, 3-1; W at North Dakota, 7-2. THIS WEEK: vs. Michigan Tech, vs. Michigan Tech.
10. Wisconsin 1 As if Halloween weekend in Madison needed a pick-me-up, the Badgers swept UAA by an 11-2 score.
4-1-1 (3-0-1 WCHA). LAST WEEK: W vs. Alaska Anchorage, 6-1; W vs. Alaska Anchorage, 5-1. THIS WEEK: at North Dakota, at North Dakota.
11. Boston College 1 Senior Chris Collins scored three of the Eagles' four goals on the weekend and leads the team with six on the year. Last season he scored his sixth goal on Feb. 11.
2-2-1 (1-1-1 Hockey East). LAST WEEK: L vs. Maine, 2-1; W vs. Providence, 3-2. THIS WEEK: at New Hampshire.
12. New Hampshire 2 Overheard Saturday night at the Mullins Center after the Wildcats' football win over UMass: "UNH goal scored by No. 3, David Ball. Assist from No. 2, Ricky Santos."
2-2-1 (1-0-0 Hockey East). LAST WEEK: W at Massachusetts, 4-1. THIS WEEK: vs. Boston College, at Northeastern, vs. Northeastern.
13. Northern Michigan 3 "One" in the U.P.: Wildcats finish off four-game winning streak vs. Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State while allowing just one goal in each game.
5-1-0 (2-0-0 CCHA). LAST WEEK: W vs. Lake Superior State, 3-1; W at Lake Superior State, 2-1. THIS WEEK: at Michigan State, at Michigan State.
14. Miami 4 RedHawks move up in the rankings after a bye week. Prove yourselves this weekend against Ohio State.
3-1-0 (2-0-0 CCHA). LAST WEEK: Off. THIS WEEK: vs. Ohio State, at Ohio State.
15. Bemidji State 2 We're guessing all those positive non-conference vibes were just about gone at the 16:08 mark of the first period Friday, with Air Force leading 3-0.
5-1-0 (1-1-0 CHA). LAST WEEK: L at Air Force, 4-3; W at Air Force, 2-1. THIS WEEK: at Wayne State, at Wayne State.
16. Harvard NR The coaching staff is expecting big things from little guy Kevin Du. Two goals and two assists in the opener isn't too shabby.
1-0-0 (1-0-0 ECACHL). LAST WEEK: W vs. Dartmouth, 6-2. THIS WEEK: at Quinnipiac, at Princeton.
17. Ohio State 12 Shot total in Kalamzoo this weekend was 78-36 in favor of the Buckeyes. Yet another reason for concern about those 10 goals against.
2-3-1 (1-2-1 CCHA). LAST WEEK: L at Western Michigan, 5-1; L at Western Michigan, 5-4. THIS WEEK: at Miami, vs. Miami.
18. Alaska-Fairbanks 1 Coach Tavis MacMillan wasn't satisfied with a split against No. 1. "We played a stupid, selfish hockey game tonight. I can't say it any clearer," he said after Saturday's loss.

Don Vaughan described his team as "spurty." We thought they were playing in Ithaca last weekend?

20. Quinnipiac NR After losing their first two games at Michigan, the Bobcats are on a six-game winning streak heading into their ECACHL debut this weekend.
