Nine Former College Standouts Who Won't be Moved Prior
to the NHL Trade Deadline
• Kevin Bieksa: The Vancouver
defenseman, who scored 75 points in 146 career games
at Bowling Green from 2000-04, has been hailed as a
budding star on the blue line. He's scored 10 goals
and 23 assists in 62 games for the surging Canucks.
• Brandon Bochenski: In
11 games with Boston — his third organization
since turning pro after the 2003-04 season — the
former North Dakota standout has six goals and five
assists.
• Randy Jones: The free
agent signee out of Clarkson a couple of years ago has
been one of the few bright spots for an otherwise abysmal
season for Philadelphia. In 56 games with the Flyers,
Jones has scored three goals and added 13 assists.
• Duncan Keith: How good
has the speedy ex-Michigan State blueliner been for
Chicago this season? Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon says
he'll entertain trade offers for former first-round
pick Brent Seabrook, but Keith, who has two goals and
25 assists this season, is off limits.
• Brett Lebda: Another
defenseman who can fly, the erstwhile Notre Dame star
has found a home in Detroit and has three goals, 10
assists, and a plus-minus rating of +7 for the Red Wings.
At 5-foot-9, he's an obvious beneficiary of the "new"
NHL.
• David Moss: The former
Michigan winger was overshadowed by the likes of Cammalleri,
Hensick, and Tambellini, but found a home on Calgary's
second line, helping fill the scoring void created when
Jarome Iginla was hurt. Moss, who returned to the ice
and scored Monday night after being checked from behind
in a win against Colorado Feb. 17, has seven goals and
six assists in 28 games.
• John Pohl: After languishing
in the American Hockey League for four
seasons, the ex-Minnesota Golden Gopher has 11 goals
and 11 assists
in 59 games with Toronto. Became something of a cult
hero in the
T.O. after scoring the winning goal in a 3-2 shootout
win over
Ottawa earlier this month.
• Travis Roche: Roche
bounced around the AHL for five seasons before
finally landing in Phoenix. He's been a pleasant surprise,
with five
goals and 11 assists in 38 games and a plus-minus rating
of +5.
• Greg Zanon: One of the
nation's top offensive defensemen when he
played for Nebraska-Omaha, Zanon has become an excellent
shot
blocker for Nashville. He's knocked down 137 opponent
attempts,
which ranks tied for 13th in the NHL in that category. |
