So. | F | Calgary, Alberta

Reed rhymes with speed — just one of the things that the Buckeye sophomore brings to the ice every night.

Index of Profiles

Key Statistics: Reed put up respectable numbers in his freshman campaign at Ohio State, amassing 19 points on 10 goals and nine assists. While this production makes him the Buckeyes' third-best returning scorer, his contributions away from the puck are equally important, as he was one of just a handful of Ohio State skaters with a plus rating, finishing second on the squad at plus-1.

What He Does: Reed is a strong, intelligent skater who prides himself on helping to move the puck up the ice. The Buckeyes can count on Reed to win races to the puck against just about anyone he faces, and if the race is close, he’s certainly not afraid to muck for it. Throughout last season, Reed created innumerable opportunities and will be focused on psychologically and mechanically improving his finishing abilities this coming season, as he struggled on breakaways at some points last year.

The Bigger Picture: It’s been tough going for Ohio State over the past three seasons, finishing no better than seventh in the CCHA standings. But with former Buckeye captains Steve Brent and JB Bittner returning to Columbus as an Assistant Coach and Video Coordinator, respectively, the Bucks have a renewed passion that Assistant Coach Jason Lammers believes will translate easily onto the ice. Reed will be counted on to be a centerpiece on this resurgence, as he plays the type of passionate, physical game that inspires teammates, coaches and fans alike.

Ohio State Assistant Coach Jason Lammers on Reed: "First thing, the obvious strength is his speed. He is exceptionally fast — I think he's one of the fastest players in the league. He's tenacious on pucks and wins a lot of battles for us. I think Kyle will be a pivotal player for us, and will play in key spots in 5-on-5 play, on the power play, and the penalty kill. We're excited to help him and coach him to get better, and we're excited for what he brings to the team."
