Year of the Goalie: Netminders Stifle Scoring
If you're wondering about the rash of close
games and the goal-scoring statistics being seemingly low,
you're not out of your mind. The nation's goaltenders, and
the teams in front of them, have turned up the notch in
the defensive zone. Since the start of the conference tournaments,
17 goalies nationwide have posted goals-against averages
below 2.00 and 20 have save percentages at .925 or better.
I guess they do subscribe to the old saying,
that defense wins championships.
